Symposium brings industry issues to Government
The Urban Greenscapes Symposium 2009 will be held at the Canberra Convention Centre on February 17. The purpose of the Symposium is to highlight the benefit of trees and plants in the urban environment and to create a Green Paper on what is required to get universal government support for increased urban greening.
Held in the nation’s Capital, the symposium will bring key industry issues to the forefront of government officials and representatives.
Both Dr Greg McPherson, Director - US Forest Service Centre for Urban Forest Research, and Adam Schwerner, Director - Green Spaces for City of Chicago, have accepted invitations to be keynote speakers at the Symposium.
Other presenters will cover industry research and talk about how we, as an industry, need to convince planners that green-life is a critical part of any new urban environment.
The Symposium will be an excellent opportunity to expose the role our industry has in delivering solutions to urban heater island effect and limiting climate change via increased urban plantings.
Immediately following the Symposium is the Nursery & Garden Industry National Conference & Exhibition, ‘Ingredients to a Brighter Future’. The Conference will lead on from the symposium, suggesting practical ways in which the industry can move forward and encouraging the industry to look outside itself.
The Nursery & Garden Industry National Conference & Exhibition is an annual event that is renowned as a good medium in which to gather information, learn, and make valuable contacts, so make sure you mark it in your diary!
