Our industry needs to work together more cohesively in order to create improved profitability and better satisfaction of consumer demand. To address this issue at the Conference, retail consultant, author and speaker John Stanley will lead the discussion ‘Ten things I hate about you’. In this part of the plenary session input will be welcomed from the floor and both growers and retailers/end users can talk about how to further cooperate to achieve better outcomes for all.
The Conference programme will also address the need for newcomers and youth to grow the industry now and into the future. The panel discussion, ‘It’s more than just a job!’ will feature Brian Merrick (Gardens r Us), Andrew White (Oasis Australia), Anthony Kachenko (NGIA National Environmental & Technical Policy Manager and recent PhD graduate) and Ross Wilson (2008 National Young Leader and Coastal Nursery owner). The panel members will discuss ways of finding staff, educating them and retaining them. They will also talk about what the industry can offer it to its people that other industries cannot.
As well as being informative and educational events, the 2009 Urban GreenScapes Symposium and National Conference & Exhibition are fantastic opportunities in which to network and better get to know industry peers, a good time to let the hair down and have some fun.
On the Wednesday night (February 18) the Gala Dinner will held at the Great Hall, Parliament House where the winners of the 2009 Nursery & Garden Industry Awards will be announced. Make the most of this elegant, black-tie evening, enjoy the food and wine and marvel at the architecture and history that is the Great Hall.
And remember to take up the fantastic marketing opportunity that the 2009 Nursery & Garden Industry Exhibition provides. The exhibition is a perfect medium in which to showcase products and services to all sectors of the industry as well as a wide range of stakeholders.
