Celebration of World Environment Day a resounding success for the industry
Nursery & Garden Industry Australia’s (NGIA) environmental resource kit to help garden retailers celebrate World Environment Day throughout June continues to be a resounding success, with over 160 retailers involved in the project nationally.
The public relations campaign to promote the initiative has been positively received by Australian media outlets, sparking more than 74 regional print articles, 20 metro print articles, 20 radio interviews and one national television story to date.
According to national communications & PR manager Tracey Wigg, the media’s strong support of the industry’s localised messages stems from the way these messages make it easy for all Australians to make a difference.
“Feedback indicates that many consumers are wary of the scare tactics touted by experts and politicians around environmental issues,” said Tracey. “Australians who want to make a positive difference to the environment are receptive to messages about how they can start in their own backyard.”
“Our message highlights the industry’s role in helping people to ‘act locally, think globally’. As the local ‘green’ expert, garden retailers are in an ideal position to give advice about building and creating an environmentally sustainable garden.”
Although the World Environment Day promotion is set to run throughout the month of June, the kit has been designed as an ongoing resource and retailers are encouraged to refer to the kit’s tips, posters, ideas and sales material all year round.
