NGIQ sustainability program reaps awards
In a fantastic achievement for the industry, Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland (NGIQ) took home the Sustainable Primary Production Award at the Queensland Primary Industries Achievement Awards last month.
The award acknowledges the high quality and innovation of their Nursery Production Farm Management System.
“The award shows the strengths of our program,” said John McDonald, Nursery Industry Development Manager, NGIQ. “It shows we’re heading in the right direction in maintaining sustainable practices.”
The award is also important for gaining awareness of the industry with government, points out Robert Prince, NGIA National Environmental Policy Manager.
“The Award for NGIQ is an important challenge for all the States to use these initiatives to increase the government’s awareness of our industry,” he said.
The Nursery Production Farm Management System is a voluntary, structured program based on industry Best Management Practice (NIASA), environmental and natural resource management (EcoHortTM), and on-farm biosecurity risk identification and minimisation (BioSecure HACCP).
“We were up against quality competition…the applicants were of a very high calibre,” said John. “The attainment of the Award reinforces the sustainability and professionalism of our program.”
The Queensland Sustainable Primary Production Award recognises commitment, contribution and achievement of primary producers and/or industry in the area of environment and natural resources. It seeks to recognise those who have shown innovation and leadership in environmental and natural resource management.
