In celebration of World Environment Day on June 5th, the nursery and garden industry has launched a new Environmental Resource Kit for garden retailers. Promoted as “Our Environment, Your Backyard”, under the Life is a Garden brand, the resource kit gives retailers the tools to make them the ‘green experts' in their local community.
Newspoll research commissioned by the industry last year found that 9 out of 10 Australians wanted an environmentally friendly, sustainable garden. The industry is ideally placed to help gardeners and house-holders achieve this goal and make a difference in their own backyard.
According to Nursery & Garden Industry Australia national communications and PR manager, Tracey Wigg there are many opportunities for the industry to promote their green story and offer expert advice to often confused house-holders.
“Many Australians are confused by the science of global warming as well as the scare tactics about the environment promoted in the media. Garden retailers are ideally placed to show average Australians that it’s easy to make a difference and the best place to start is their own backyard,” said Tracey.
“The environment resource kit has been designed to empower garden retailers as the local green experts in their community."
The resource kit is full of green ideas to help educate consumers, including catchy point of sale posters and worksheets. The kit also offers retailers display, promotional and workshop ideas highlighting the benefits of plants, growing your own fruit and vegetables, water conservation, composting, creating habitat for wildlife and recycling.
Garden retailers engaged in the promotion will continue to be informed about exciting opportunities to promote the importance of green-life and plants in the urban environment.
