Raising our environmental credentials Merewyn Partland, Environmental Projects Officer
With environmental issues increasingly taking pride of place in public debates, government campaigns, the media and almost anywhere else one cares to look, NGIA is also stepping up its focus on the ‘green’ in green life. Engaged to assist the nursery and garden industry boost its environmental credentials to the Australian public, Merewyn Partland joins the national office as Environmental Projects Officer.
Bringing to the position her vast experience in communications management and public affairs, Merewyn will be coordinating the implementation of the environmental projects portfolio. Through the development of environmental marketing and PR campaigns for consumers, Merewyn’s role aims to raise the environmental profile of the nursery and garden industry and drive consumers back into their gardens.
In addition to working with NGIA consultants and the internal team, Merewyn will also liaise with garden retailers and stakeholders to ensure that national environmental campaigns meet the needs of industry and work successfully for the benefit of industry. Garden centre operators may have already seen Merewyn’s name linked to the projects ‘Our Environment, Your Backyard’, Wise about Water, Flora for Fauna and World Environment Day.
Merewyn has a Bachelor of Communications and Journalism from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) and has worked in numerous senior management positions with leading international communications consultancies. Her previous experience has included working with clients in the healthcare, agricultural, environmental and science industries in stakeholder management, communications, public affairs and crisis management.
She also has a Masters in Public Health and has worked throughout the Asia Pacific assisting developing countries to set up and manage health care infrastructure.
