NGIA takes industry message to national television audience
Recognising the importance of environmental issues globally, the Nursery & Garden industry have sponsored The Garden Gurus Global Warming Special. The program will go to air on Easter Sunday at 7.00 pm on Channel Nine nationally.
This is an exciting opportunity for the industry to promote the importance of plants to a prime time national television audience.
The feature will drive positive environmental messages that show the synergy between Life is a Garden and global environment questions, emphasising why the best place to start looking after the environment is your own backyard. The program will direct viewers into their nearest garden centre for more localised information, tips and hints on sustainable gardening.
The feature will also highlight:
- The benefits of planting trees where land clearing and increased burning fossil fuels has dramatically increased the amount of carbon in the atmosphere
- Planting a shade tree to reduce your power bills and take carbon out of the air
- Composting green waste and kitchen scraps
- How the home gardener can make a difference by planting trees, shrubs and native grasses
- Improving the soil with organic matter to aid water retention and help store carbon in the ground
- Clever planting and plant selection and how it can reduce your water needs
- Producing your own food at home, and
- Effective watering with limited water wastage.
If you don’t manage to catch the Global warming Special, the full program will be available on the Life is a Garden website after Easter. The industry will also be conducting a promotion and media campaign about environmental issues in June and July to coincide with World Environment Day on June 5.
