Supply chain review
Thank you to those who responded to the article about the supply chain review that was in October Clippings. As mentioned then, NGIA has commissioned this project in response to serious concerns from across the industry about transport and logistics issues.
The consulting team for the review comprises horticultural consultant Gerard McEvilly and logistician Tom Rafferty. NGIA CEO Robert Prince is the project manager for the review.
The team has received some excellent input from many retailers, transport businesses and growers. Gerard and Tom are continuing to explore the issues across our incredibly diverse industry and are keen to hear from anyone with views and ideas to offer. They are also undertaking extensive desk research to update existing knowledge on the nursery supply chain in overseas countries.
So far, there has been a dearth of data on the specific costs of the various business activities from production to dealing with orders, transport, retail merchandising or stock control. The consulting team would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who has undertaken any activity-based costing.
